Dr Strini Chetty, grew up in Stanger and is currently residing in Salt Rock. He studied the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBChB) at the University of Witwatersrand, obtained a diploma in child health DCH(SA) and his Fellowship of the College of Paediatricians of South Africa: FC Paed(SA) from the College of Medicine South Africa (CMSA). He spent 2 years rotating through child and adolescent psychiatric units throughout the United Kingdom. Dr Chetty has been practicing as a Specialist Paediatrician for 8 years. “Children, by their very nature are innocent and endure health issues, by no fault of their own. Watching my patients respond positively to our medical interventions and seeing the joy in the parents’ eyes is what drives us Paediatricians to continue doing what we do, however challenging it may become. Managing neonates, especially, premature babies and watching them grow from 800g, while admitted for weeks (and months) in neonatal ICU, is a phenomenal experience and knowing that you are helping a family create years and years of memories with their child is a very fulfilling feeling. Whilst many of my colleagues ventured into big cities to start their specialist practices, I have always wanted to come back to my hometown and give back to my community, to support our GPs and the healthcare system, with the overall aim of improving child health,” shared Dr Chetty.
